As your 180SX/S13 (this process is the largely the same for S14/S15/R32/R33/R34 except for different bushing sizes) spends more time alive all its suspension bushes are going to wear out, be it from road use or just dry rotting from sitting. In this instance the bushes where worn from road use and whilst I had the car on the hoist it was the perfect time to change the bushes out.

For this car i have selected Super Pro bushes (Part number SPF2825K) to replace the worn OEM bushes, I have used them on my own 180SX for a long time and have been very happy with the quality and the cost.

The first step is to jack up your vehicle so you can access your steering rack, there is 2 bushes to replace which we will access by removing the 2 caps that retain the steering rack.

The 2 retaining caps are held in by 2 bolts which are found on the under side of the crossmember (which I have circled in red). The 4 bolts are 17MM in size.

All 4 bolts are the same length and size so don’t worry about their order, just remember to give them a clean before they go back in.

Then simply lift off the 2 caps and remove them, they will also require a clean before re-installation.

To access the bushes simply push the power steering rack upwards away from the crossmember and pull the bushes away.

The bushes have seen better days, take this time to clean up the steering rack and crossmember.

Take the two new bushes and simply slide them over the steering rack, the bushes are 2 different shapes with the circle bush going on the LH side and the tear drop bush going on the RH side.

Once the bushes are in place put the retaining caps back on and reinstall the bolts, i suggest using loctite on the bolts especially if you are using the 180SX for track use. Tighten the bolts firmly.

And just like that you are done, I personally noticed an improved feel over stock bushes (mostly as they where very worn) and that the new bushes are not super harsh which I prefer.
